  • Pregnant right after amalgam removal

I’m worried about mercury exposure to my baby. I had 2 amalgam fillings removed on the first day of my cycle. I saw a holistic dentist who used a dental dam, cold water, oxygen, face covering and disposable suit for me to wear. I swished with and drank activated charcoal before and after. I have read even with all the precautions there is some mercury exposure. That cycle I ended up getting unexpectedly pregnant and I’m worried about the fetus being exposed to mercury. Ovulation would have been two weeks after the procedure.

It sounds like your dentist took great precautions to ensure that you did not have exposure to excess mercury during your procedure. Have you read our article about mercury and breastfeeding? We have a lot of good information regarding mercury that may help ease your mind. In most cases, having these procedures done in the fashion that you have will expose you to less mercury than if you were to eat fish.
