  • Green Extracts

    Hello!

I’m interested in beginning this supplement. I am currently nursing a 6 month old. Is it safe? I cannot find any research regarding green coffee bean extract or green tea extract and breastfeeding. All advice has been incredibly conflicting. It would be taken once per day.

400mg Purified Sukre Acacia Hydrolysate (as A niloctica)
    (standardized to 99% arabinose)

    250mg Moringa Leaf Powder

    100mg Green Tea Extract

    200mg Cinnamon Ceylon Bark Powder

    200mg Green Coffee Bean Extract

Other Ingredients: MCT Oil Powder (from Medium Chain Triglycerides from coconut oil, arabic gum, tapioca dextrin), Natural Flavors, Citric Acid, Stevia Leaf Extract, Monk Fruit Extract, Spirulina Extract (Color), Turmeric (Color).

Unfortunately, products such as this are not regulated, therefore it is difficult to say if the dosage listed on the package is the true amount that is being taken. Additionally, none of these ingredients have well controlled clinical trials specific to lactation, so there is a lot of theoretical concern to consider.

We know that caffeine does pass into breast milk and green tea extract and coffee bean extract will naturally contain some. It appears that the caffeine content in the bean is not overly high. As for the other components in green coffee bean, I would be somewhat concerned with a breastfeeding infant. This product contains a major amount of chlorogenic acid, which is known to have a number of biologic repercussions, such as hypoglycemia, and inhibition of glucose-6-phosphate. This ultimately reduces hepatic glycogenolysis and reduces plasma glucose levels. While this is great and welcomed in a diabetic, it might be problematic for an infant. There are no clinically relevant studies to determine how much green tea extract or green coffee bean extract get in to milk.

Upon reviewing the ingredients, it looks like the cinnamon bark powder could have some negative impact on an infants hormones, but it is hard to say since we do not have human studies on this supplement.
I am not concerned about the Moringa powder as it appears it is used in large quantities in Asia without evidence of infant harm.

In my opinion, this is a somewhat risky product due to the potential blood glucose and possible hormonal impact on your infant if it does pass through the milk. I am going to include some links for you to read. I hope this helps
