Wegovy while breastfeeding

Hello,

i have a 5 months infant and breastfeeding. I want to start Wegovy injection from next month or November. But I’m not sure about the risk? Has anyone injected Wegovy while breastfeeding that can share her experience with me ?

We do have some data on GLP-1 use in breast milk. While the drug itself does not appear to transfer into the milk, there are some other concerns regarding using it prior to your infant being 12 months old. Our recent study has shown that it may lead to a decreased milk supply, which could impact your breastfeeding journey. This is something to consider as you weigh your options. We also recommend a postnatal vitamin and attention to consuming enough calories to meet the elevated nutrient needs required during lactation, if you decide to use it, since it can potentially decrease the nutritional quality of the milk your baby is consuming. Thank you so much for your detailed and helpful reply! It really gave me a better understanding of the potential concerns.

I just wanted to clarify one more thing to make sure I fully understand. My baby is now 5 months old, growing really well (in the 98th percentile for weight and height), and already eating solids in addition to breastfeeding. I also plan to supplement with some formula if my milk supply decreases.


With this situation, would it be safe to assume that there’s no significant risk of Wegovy transferring into my milk and affecting my baby directly, as long as I monitor his growth and nutrition carefully.
