  • Technetium-99m

    Hello,

I am scheduled for a sentinel lymph node removal for a spot of melanoma on my lateral shin. My surgeon anticipates that the drainage will track to an inguinal (groin) lymph node. During the procedure, technetium-99m will be injected for lymphatic mapping.

I am currently nursing my 9-month-old 3–4 times per day, and on demand overnight as we co-sleep.

How long should I plan to pump and dump after receiving technetium-99m? My surgeon advised 3 days, but I have seen other sources recommending 24 hours or approximately 60 hours.

    Could you please advise?
    Thank you!

60 hours is typically long enough as long as your milk as returned to normal color.

      Hi,
What color would the milk change to?
      Thank you.
