  • Oral Purgative while breastfeeding

    Hello
I'm going for a colonoscapy in a few months and need to take oral purgatives prior. It is usually dolcolax a few days before, then Pico-Salax the night before. I am wondering if this is passed through breast milk and if it will affect my (3 months by then) baby?

    Hi, thanks for your post.

This post made me realize that we had not answered this fairly common question on our main sites. I've just posted an FAQ entry for colonoscopies over on MommyMeds. Check it out at the link below. Pico-Salax is an osmotic laxative with a similar safety profile to the other laxatives discussed there.

For anyone reading this, please post again or call us at the InfantRisk Center, (806)352-2519, if this has not completely answered your question. I would also appreciate you filling out a 2 minute survey about your time on the forum:
