I am currently breastfeeding a 4 month old. I was looking into tattoo removal and wondering about the safety during breastfeeding. I know a laser is used to break up ink molecules but not sure if they get into the breastmilk, or, if they do, would be harmful.

This has not been studied.
The ink molecules themselves are large, so unlikely to penetrate the milk compartment, however, we do not know if the laser process can create nanoparticles that would penetrate. Due to various compositions of ink (possibly lead, mercury, etc) there is a potential for infant harm, therefore we would recommend waiting until you are done nursing.
