  • Focalin

I am prescribed 10 mg ir and 20 mg xr of Focalin. I am breastfeeding a 3 week old. Can I take this and breast feed? I can just take the IR or the XR if I can’t take both.

If you can wait to take the XR until after your baby is 8 weeks old, it would be better. Focalin does get into breast milk, so your baby will be getting a little bit of it, but at these doses it could be compatible. The risks are a little higher when they're this little as we worry about poor feeding/appetite in infant because of the mechanism. Make sure your baby's pediatrician knows that you are on this medication so that they can closely monitor growth and identify any potential issues early.
