  • Gabapentin vs. Cymbalta

    Hello,

I have a four month old who I am breastfeeding. My doctor has prescribed gabapentin or cymbalta for nerve pain. Which medication would be the preference, assuming at least one would be considered appropriate while breastfeeding.

Also please note, that due to low supply, she receives approximately 60% breast milk and 40% formula.

    Thank you for your help!

Whichever medication you and your provider think will be most beneficial for your unique case, should be appropriate. Cymbalta is an L3 and gabapentin is an L2. At reasonable dosages, either should be compatible. With both of these, you want to monitor for poor feeding or increased drowsiness, however, given your partial feedings, this is unlikely to occur (again, at reasonable dosages).
