  • IVIg Infusions

    Hello,

My immunologist has recommended monthly IVIg transfusions due to deficiencies in IgG1 and IgG2. Are there any risks to breastfeeding a 6 month old while receiving the transfusions? Can any of the side effects be transferred to her? Thank you!

    MandyM, thanks for posting,

Although there are limited data on the transfer of immunoglobulins into milk, we believe that the molecule is too large to enter into the milk compartment in clinically relevant amounts. Therefore milk levels are probably exceedingly low to undetectable and it should also be poorly absorbed by the infants stomach, so the side effects should not transfer to her.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions please call the InfantRisk Center at 806-352-2519. Thanks,

    Sandra Lovato R.N.
