How long after receiving a single does of Valium (5-10mg) for a laser eye surgery procedure would a mother have to wait before the Valium is out of her system and she may safely resume breastfeeding? How long is the half life of valium?

    Dear Sarah,
Valium has a half-life of 43 hours, therefore, it would be around 10-12 days before all of it is out of her system. How old is the baby? Dr. Hale recommends waiting approximately 10-12 hours after taking the medication before resuming breastfeeding and pumping and dumping in the meantime. Hope this is helpful.
