Chiredhead,
Niacin is rated a P1-minimal risk to the fetus. Niacin is known to cross the placenta. It is not known if doses of niacin used in treating lipid disorders can cause harm to the fetus. In a mother with hypercholesterolemia, niacin should be discontinued if pregnancy occurs. In the case of hypertriglyceridemia, the benefits and risks of continued niacin administration must be evaluated on an individual basis.[1] Doses which do not exceed the recommended daily allowance are generally considered to be safe during pregnancy.[2] The RDA in pregnancy is 18 mg a day.
