  • Antioxidants Coq10 and Grape Seed Extract

The multi vitamin I want to take has these in it, 100 mg each. I was only going to take 1/2 dose for insurance. Is 50 mg of GSE (not Grapefruit) and Coq10 ok??

    Dear EveG,

We do not have data on grapeseed extract. There are literally thousands of herbal products and teas used today. Many are safe and some are unsafe for breastfeeding mothers. Consult an authority in herbal products before ingesting these drugs while pregnant or breastfeeding. Herbal supplements are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration; therefore, we do not have data on their kinetics or their ability to enter breastmilk. Coenzyme Q10 is a naturally occurring cofactor that is synthesized within the cell. We do not have data on levels in breastmilk. Probably safe but but should not be used in high doses.

    Sincerely,
    Cindy Pride, MSN, CPNP
