  • Long term prednisone 5 or 10mg in second trimester

to switch away from Colchicine 6mg, which I was on the entire first trimester for myopericarditis that I suspect was worse in early pregnancy, the doctor wants me to try Prednisone 5mg, or 10mg if needed, long term.

Is that OK in second trimester?

When I started Colchicine I researched prednisone vs colchicine and prednisone was more harmful than colchicine in first trimester.

this doctor also wants to give me Plaquenil if the prednisone will work, instead of colchicine.

    Thank you.

Prednisone is commonly used during pregnancy--placental enzymes limit passage to the growing fetus. The concern with chronic prednisone is typically the risk of gestational diabetes. This would be an individualized risk-benefit decision with your healthcare providers based on your specific situation.
