  • Lotemax .5% eye drops

Hi, I am trying to conceive. I'm currently breastfeeding my 18 month old as well. I was prescribed Lotemax eye drops to use as needed for inflammation in my eyes. They get very red. Is this safe for any parts of a pregnancy? Will it affect my breastmilk? My son doesn't nurse as often so I wasn't too worried about my milk, but I would like to be sure. Thank you for your time!

    Chighum:

No problem for the breastfeeding infant.

As for getting pregnant, some studies show a low but possible risk for orofacial defects when a young fetus is exposed to this family of drugs. I'd suggest you talk with your ophthalmologist about other alternatives for the first trimester of pregnancy.
