  • Gas-X...Simethicone

Hi I am an RD and CLC, but I am pregnant with #1. Is there any information on Simethicone (Main ingredient in Gas-X). Can't find it in the 14th edition. If its under another name, please let me know I'll gladly look it up.

I have decreased some veggie intake (I prefer the cruciferous veg), but I love legumes also. I am approaching the end of my 1st trimester. I used things like Beano and Gas-X before being pregnant but not since. However, the gas is not triggered by eating these specific foods. It seems to be simply due to pregnancy. I usually get it early in the morning, and late evenings. I am just wondering if the Gas-X can be used for quick relief.

My midwife says don't use it.

I've read on the internet that its okay.

    Please advise.

    Dear Dykibra,

Simethicone is not rated during pregnancy. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. However, this product is completely unabsorbed, and is highly unlikely to cause birth defects. Hope this information helps.
