• Pregnancy 1st trimester and Prilosec 20MG

I have been on Omeprazole (prilosec) 20mg for the last 2 years. My Gastroent Dr is now saying that I cannot take this med in my first trimester, however my OB is saying I can. Can you please inform me which is correct.

    Musicislife,

Omeprazole (prilosec), is rated P3-unknown, risk to fetus cannot be ruled out. Human reports suggests omeprazole use during pregnancy is not expected to increase the risk of birth defects. Human studies linking the use of this product with birth defects are not available. Use only if the benefit to the mother exceeds the potential risk to the fetus. Remember that 1-3% of all pregnancies can result in a birth defect due to chance alone.

    I hope this helps.
