Is it safe for a 16 month old to continue breastfeeding if his mother is taking 1000 micrograms of oral B12 a day to combat deficiency? The baby was still nursing quite frequently (12+ times/day), but now I've "weaned" him down to six times/day. Should I wean him completely or will it be okay for him to continue nursing if I'm taking B12 at this dosage? If he continues, are there any special precautions I need to follow? Thank you!

    Cristin:

B12 is pretty safe, in fact very safe. I have never heard of an over dose of this vitamin. While some will probably enter milk, I would not be overly concerned about this oral dose.

I heard there are B-12 sprays, would that be okay as well?
