Can a breastfeeding mother use protein powder and whey protein? Getting conflicting info. when i look for information to advice mother.

Dear my4sons,
The Food and Drug Administration recommends 71 grams of protein daily for breastfeeding and pregnant women. If the protein powder product contains plain whey protein, then just add the amount of protein in the powder you use and add all of the protein sources you consume in that day. If you don't exceed 71 gm for the day, that should be compatible with breastfeeding. Remember, many food items contain protein besides meat products such as eggs, nuts, legumes etc. so be sure to include all of the protein sources you eat. Also, the protein powder product may contain other ingredients such as extra vitamins, minerals, or herbal products. You should not exceed the recommended daily amounts of vitamins and minerals while breastfeeding. Herbal products are not generally recommended during breastfeeding due to the lack of scientific data on their safety. You should consult a qualified herbal specialist before consuming these products while breastfeeding. Hope this information helps.
