Dear Shelley,
Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone) is a naturally occurring cofactor that is
generated within cells. The cofactor is relatively non-toxic in adults,
but there are no data on the relative toxicity in infants. There are no
data on levels in breastmilk. Most references suggest that pregnant and
breastfeeding women should not use Coenzyme Q10. Dr. Hale thinks Coenzyme
10 is probably safe to use in breastfeeding mothers, but do not overdose.
The two studies accessed used doses of 100 mg and 300 mg, respectively.
Let me know if you have further questions.
Sincerely,
Cindy Pride, MSN, CPNP
