Abreva (docosanol) is approved as an antiviral agent to treat oral-facial herpes simplex infection. This product should not be used in the eyes or on the genitalia. There have been no studies on docosanol in breastmilk; however, it not absorbed by mouth so it appears to pose little risk to a breastfeeding infant. Let me know if you have further questions.
