Would a small amount of Dovonex 0.005% (calcipotriene) on the subungual area of the 5th digit 2x a day be fine with breastfeeding? Thanks for your input.

Would it be alright to treat a psoriasis outbreak on the nipple/areola with*Dovonex 0.005% (calcipotriene) if certain protocols were in place, such as only using at night when feeding would not occur for 6-8 hours, and/or washing the treated area prior to feeding, or using only during a period of time when breastfeeding directly has been replaced by expressing milk (at work or so cracked nipple can heal, etc.)?

Charlotte:
This is an active form of Vitamin D. Used topically, very little is absorbed. But if absorbed orally by an infant, could be problematic.
I'd suggest if used on the nipple/areola, that it be thoroughly washed off prior to breastfeeding. Perhaps you could use a hand cream or some other oily mixture to remove the Dovonex before breast-feeding. Soap may be too irritating, particularly for psoriasis. Make sure the nipple is well lubricated between feedings.
