  • Nontoxic Keratin Treatment with Glyoxclic Acid

I recently had a Formaldehyde-free heat activated Keratin treatment called Proaddiction. It is marketed as “safe” and”nontoxic. Salon said it is safe for breastfeeding moms. However, after getting treatment I did some research and found that the main ingredient, Glyoxclic acid (not Glycolic) was reported to cause Severe Acute Kidney Injury amongst certain individuals. It’s believed to be from fumes while doing the treatment and possible scalp absorption. Salon rinsed my hair after the treatment and I rinsed again at home.
I am so worried about continuing to breastfeed as well as possible inhalation through my hair.

I waited overnight to give my breastmilk to my child (pumped and dumped first 4 sessions) but began feeding him the next day (partial only as I combo feed and only express 1 oz per session - he eats 3-4oz). I have no symptoms besides my hair smelling like heavy fragrance/solution.

    Please help. thanks so much!
