  • Capsicum patch

Are capsicum patches safe while nursing ? These are patches that come over the counter such as salonpas.

Hi NmA20, we don't expect maternal use of topical capsaicin to cause any issues with a breastfed infant through the milk. However, topical application to the nipple or areola should be avoided unless it is thoroughly removed prior to breastfeeding. Many of these patches have multiple ingredients--most are herbal, and we don't have good data for.
