  • Topical warts therapy

    Dear Dr Hale
I have a breastfeeding patient with cutaneous warts asking if she could be treated with topical application of formic acid or chloroacetic acid (two different preparations).
    Thank you in advance

    Apanago:

Both these acids are OK to use in breastfeeding mother. I'd suggest she wait several hours AFTER using it to breastfeed. Both are easily metabolized by the human.

Make sure she keeps the surface area to a minimum as both are potentially noxious. Just topically on cutaneous should not be a problem.
