  • Kenalog injection for bakers cyst

I am having a large baker's cyst behind my knee ruptured and aspirated. They will inject lidocaine to numb the area then aspirate the fluid, then inject up to 40mg of kenalog to seal the cyst and help keep it from coming back. I have an eleven month old breastfeeding infant and wonder if it is safe to breastfeed her directly after the procedure or if I will need to pump and dump? ThAnks so much.

    Palestrina:

Neither of these drugs really enter milk in clinically relevant amounts. Both would be easily metabolized by a 11 month old infant. I'd suggest you pump and discard the milk for about 12 hours after the injections, and return to breastfeeding.
