  • cortenema for proctitis

I have ulcerative proctitis involving distal 10cm of rectum & have been perscribed 100mg of CORTENEMA at bedtime / 1000 of CANASA in the am. Both used to be used rectally. My 7month old nurses exclusively, are these potentially harmful to her?

    Hi, thanks for your post.

The short version is that these two drugs are quite safe to use while breastfeeding. We expect that some of the drug will be absorbed into your bloodstream, but it should be less than if you took the same drug orally. Canasa and Cortenema (hydrocortisone) are discussed at the links below:

Please post again or call us at the InfantRisk Center if this has not completely answered your question.*(806)352-2519
