  • Oral prednisone

I had an allergic reaction to something that caused a skin rash. My doctor prescribed a topical ointment (Triamcinolone Acetonide .1%) but it is not helping much. They just called me in 70 tablets of 10 mg prednisone with a 4 day taper. I am checking to see if it is okay to take this? Is there any danger? Should I wait longer to see if the ointment will work? My son is older, but we are still breastfeeding a few times a day. I appreciate any advice you can give me. Thank you so much!

    Reidsmama:

I would not worry about this dosing regiment. Oral corticosteroids are not well absorbed to begin with, and as a rule they don't transfer into human milk to any degree. I wouldn't worry about its short term use at all.
