  • Methylprodnisolone & baby 4 months

Hello! I have immune thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP). I had a platelet fall and I was being given Methylprednisone 1g a day. They put me .5g at 8am and 8pm. This will be for 3 days. I am pumping milk every 3 hours. Is it safe for the baby after 4 and before 12 hours ? I do not have enough milk stored for 3 days. Thank you! Ana (Mexico)

    AnaRmz,

You are on high doses so you need to pump and dump for 8-9 hours after each infusion.

Thanks for your answer! Don’t tell me that even if the doses is 0.5g every 12 hours?! So I have 4 hours to get as much milk as I can before the next dose? I do not have enough milk storage.

        AnaRmz,

Yes you only have 4 hours to use your milk between infusions. Your dose is high, Dr Hale says not to exceed 80mg and you are receiving 500mg or 0.5g twice a day. If you do not have enough breast milk you will need to use formula.
