  • Best medication choice for anxiety related insomnia

    Hi,

I'm wondering what the safest choice of medication (to be used on a daily basis) is for anxiety related insomnia. I've read a lot about ambien, lunesta, ativan, and possibly even antidepressants such as zoloft in high enough doses to treat anxiety (such as 100-200 mg for example). What is the best and safest choice for someone with chronic insomnia who is exclusively breastfeeding a 3 month old?

    Dear Dani,

You should talk with your healthcare provider about the best medication(s) for your condition. Once you know what medication(s) you will be taking, call us at the InfantRisk Center 806-352-2519. We are open Monday through Friday, 8 to 5 CDT. We can discuss in detail about your particular infant and the risk/benefit each medication holds. There are too many variables to answer your question adequately in this forum.

    Sincerely,
    Cindy Pride, MSN, CPNP
