Intermezzo is Zolpidem. The below data suggests its reasonably safe, as long as the infant is not subject to breathing difficulties (apnea). At 3 months I doubt there is great risk, but this is a question for the infants pediatrician.

    Tom Hale Ph.d.

In a study of 5 lactating mothers receiving 20 mg daily, the maximum plasma concentration occurred between 1.75 and 3.75 hours and ranged from 90 to 364 µg/L.[2] The authors suggest that the amount of zolpidem recovered in breastmilk 3 hours after administration ranged between 0.76 and 3.88 µg or 0.004% to 0.019% of the total dose administered. Breastmilk clearance of zolpidem is very rapid and none was detectable (below 0.5 ng/mL) by 4-5 hours post-dose.

One case of infant sedation and poor appetite related to zolpidem use has been reported following the nightly use of sertraline (100 mg) and 10 mg zolpidem.[3] Upon discontinuation of zolpidem, the infant regained appetite and became more alert.

Is the drug Intermezzo, 1.75mg, safe for breastfeeding? 3 month old infant. What would the recommendations be? Thank you.
