The reason to stop BF for weeks prior to receiving I-131 is to dry up the milk supply because radioiodine concentrates in breast milk. At least 26-45% of the dose ends up in the breast, the cumulative exposure to breast tissues could be excessively high.The estimated dose of radioactivity to the breasts would give a "theoretical" probability of induction of breast cancer of 0.32%.
