  • cabergoline

    Hi,
I am a pharmacist and I am asked frequently the following question:
If a mother took cabergoline and than she regrets and wants to continue breastfeeding, can she continue breastfeeding or is she supposed to pump and dump the milk. If so - for how long?
    Thank you

    Miripev,

Cabergoline is most concentrated in the milk 2-3 hours post dose, but has a long half-life of 63-69 hours. In cases of hyperprolactinemia, mothers may continue breastfeeding with lower or titrated doses of cabergoline. It is probably ok for moms to go ahead and breastfeed as it has probably already been a day or two since she took this medication and then decided to breastfeed again. Have moms monitor their infants for drowsiness or insomnia, dry mouth, and constipation.
