• List of highly lipid soluble anesthetic agents for department of health

We are trying to address an issue with surgery center staff and MDs who tell breastfeeding mothers that they need to pump and dump their milk for long periods of time after surgery. We have a letter that we are sending through channels at our department of health to get the health commissioner's signature on. We are using the ABM protocols and giving Medication and Mother's milk as a reference. there has been a request from a SDH official that we provide a list of highly soluble drugs that should be avoided "Mothers with normal term or older infants can generally resume breastfeeding as soon as they are awake, stable, and alert. Resumption of normal mentation is a hallmark that these medications have redistributed from the plasma compartment (and thus generally the milk compartment) and entered adipose and muscle tissue where they are slowly released. The exception could be a drug that is highly lipid soluble, in which breast tissue may function as a fat compartment, acting as a drug reservoir." 1) Can you give me a list of these drugs? 2) if they cannot be avoided, what is the length of time that a mother should pump and dump? Thanks
