  • Nplate and breastfeeding

I have a mother of one of our NICU infants who had a spleenectomy during her pregnancy. Her PCP wants to start her on Nplate (romiplostim) for persistent thrombocytopenia.

Her infant was born at 38 weeks and is 2 weeks old. Admitted to the NICU for thrombocytopenia and has required platelet transfusions with the most recent one today.

Is this medication safe for her to take while providing breastmilk?

    Dear Smithch,

I was not able to find much information on romiplostim. Dr. Hale is out of the country but will return next week. He will give his opinion at that time. Sorry for the delay.

    Sincerely,
    Cindy Pride, MSN, CPNP
