  • L-Theamine

I have a mom asking about the safety of taking L-Theamine - my thought is that as an amino acid it would be ok but would like some input..

    thank you,

    Patricia

    Dear Patricia,

We do not have l-theanine in our database. I did some research and found that theanine is an amino acid found primarily in tea leaves. There appears to be a lack of scientific evidence for its safety in pregnancy and lactation when used in amounts higher than what is normally found in food. Theanine has the potential to interact with medications being taken for hypertension. Due to the lack of data, we do not recommend using l-theanine while breastfeeding.

    Sincerely,
