    Hello,

a mother has been prescibed a medication of paracetamol + chlorzoxazone. She has to take this for 4 weeks.
I know paracetamol is safe for the nursing couple, but what about chlorzoxazone?

Thank you very much for your reply.

    Cheers,
    Myriam

    Dear Myriam,

Chlorzoxazone is not in our database. I was able to find some information about the drug but will need to talk with Dr. Hale about a lactation rating. He will be back in the office next week.

        Dear Myriam,

I spoke with Dr. Hale and, he thinks the use of chlorzoxazone is risky during breastfeeding because of the kinetics of the drug. There is a risk of sedation, and he would classify the drug L 4. He thought a better choice of muscle relaxant for breastfeeding would be metaxalone (Skelaxin). If you have further questions, please call the InfantRisk Center at 806-352-2519, Monday through Friday, 8 to 5 CST.

        Sincerely,
