I am currently EBF my 4 month old son. I am scheduled for a lithotripsy and stent removal next Thursday. I am unable to find out what medication they will be giving during my procedure, other than general anaesthesia. Has anyone had this? Any information would be great. I just want to make sure I can breastfeed. He will not take a bottle. Thank you!

The HavensMom, thanks for posting,
The most common medications used in general anesthesia are fentanyl, versed and propofol. With these medications we recommend waiting 4 hours after your procedure to resume breastfeeding, this is provided you are fully awake at that time and that you infant does not have a history of apnea.
As far as any other medications we would need to know exactly what they are using in order to advise you properly.
I hope this helps if you have any other questions please call the InfantRisk Center at 806-352-2519. Thanks,
Sandra Lovato R.N.
