  • daflon 500 (diosmin/hesperidin) for nursing toddler

    Hi There,

I tried looking up the information on the app but it seems to be having an issue. Is there any information regarding the safety of this medication used for venous insufficiency when nursing a toddler?

    Thank you!

    DC123, thanks for posting,

As a whole we do not recommend the use of herbal products in breastfeeding mothers because there is insufficient reliable information and they are not FDA regulated.

The Natural Standard data base states that this product has been used in adults safely for 2 months at doses of 900mg of diosmin, and 100mg of hesperidin a day for venous stasis ulcers. That being said we do not know how much transfers into breast milk or the effects it could have on the breastfed infant. It does not look overly hazardous for short term use, but we can not say this for sure at this time because they just have not been studied. I hope this helps, if you have any other questions please call the InfantRisk Center at 806-352-2519. Thanks
