  • Urocit-K

My urologist prescribed me two weeks worth of Urocit-k. I have taken it without knowing it might be harmful to my baby. There isn't any research out there on whether it passes through the milk or not. Does anyone have any information out there?

    Hi, thanks for your post.

Urocit-K is made from potassium salts and citric acid. Both of these substances are tightly controlled in the body. Studies have shown that the potassium concentration in milk stays fairly constant, regardless of how much the mother ingests. Citric acid is rapidly metabolized after you absorb it and it has never been identified in human milk. Taken as prescribed, I would say this is quite safe to use in a breastfeeding mother.

Please call us at the InfantRisk Center if this has not completely answered your question.*(806)352-2519
