A mother of a 3 m.old is asking about the safety of tolvaptan (for her genetic renal polycystic syndrome) during breastfeeding.
Do you have any data about it?
    thank you

    Annalisa:

There's no data in breastfeeding mothers. This drug drastically increase sodium levels in plasma and therefore water content. I'd suggest it is too dangerous to use in a breastfeeding mother. While I would suggest milk level will be low, sodium retention in the infant could be significant.

I'd suggest the risk is higher than the benefit of breastfeeding.
