I’m having a double procedure on Aug 7th. The prep medication is nulytely along with a clear liquid diet and I was told they will be using propofol for anesthesia. I am breastfeeding a 9 month old and want to make sure this is all safe and want to make sure I don’t tank my supply. Is there anything I should be concerned about or anything I need to do during prep? Will I be ok to breastfeed before and after the procedure safely? Thanks

Jham,
The Nulytely is probably ok as these agents stay mostly in the GI system and transfer to milk is highly unlikely due to limited absorption. Monitor your infant for diarrhea.
With the propofol we usually recommend about 4 hours or until you are fully awake since very minimal amounts are transferred into the breast milk. Monitor your infant for sedation, slowed breathing rate and not waking to feed.
