  • Nasal polyps removal surgery

I am having surgery tomorrow to have nasal polyps removed. I was told that I am getting local anesthesia and will need to pump for 24-48 hours. Will I need to pump that long after? Or can I breastfeed? My baby is 2 months old and is exclusively breastfed. The only thing I don't understand is that after a major surgery like a csection mothers are able to breastfeed within the hour..... why is it different for other surgerys?

We recommend waiting a minimum of 4 hours after your surgery. If you are fully awake awake at that time you could nurse, if not wait until you do not feel any effects from the medications. The most common anesthetics used are versed, propofol, fentanyl, a steroid, an antibiotic, and neuromuscular blocking agents like Zemuron, and a gas like Sevoflurane. We recommend to not let them use Demerol as it has such a long half-life.
