  • Hyperthyrodism - Carbimazole and Propranolol

A mother of a 2 month old was prescribed Carbimazole 60mg/day (20mg TID) and Propranolol 120mg/day (40mg TID). I know the drugs are safe in breastfeeding but I'm not sure about the doses. Your input is highly appreciated.. are the doses considered safe?

Yomna88: these are standard doses commonly used. Just observe for weakness or sedation in the infant. There are very unlikely but they are what you would see if the infant is getting too much.
Your pediatrician might want to test for T4 in the infant just to be safe at about a month.
