  • SAM-e for treating postnatal depression

I am looking after a mum who is breastfeeding and has a history of pnd, she does not want to take SSRI's. I have read an aricle by Kathleen Kendall which recommends the use of SAM-e for pnd. I can't find any information re: safety while breastfeeding. Any information would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks

    Dear bciara,
SAMe is an herbal drug and as such is not regulated by the food and drug administration. Therefore, we cannot comment on its safety like we can with drugs such as the SSRI's. Sorry we couldn't be more helpful.
