Is this safe to use while breastfeeding a 4 month old?

I have IBS that limits my diet, and my doctor has recommended that I start on a powdered greens drink, if possible. I'm not sure that he one he has recommend is safe while nursing, though. Do you know if any of these ingredients are questionable?

    Hi, thanks for your post.

I can say with confidence that the following are safe for your situation, provided your baby does not have an unfortunate allergy:
    SDG Flax Lignan Concentrate
    Oat Beta Glucan
    Apple Fiber Pectin
    Sprouted Barley Malt
    Greens Blend
    Vegetable Blend
    Soy Lecithin
    Enzyme Blend
    Probiotic blend

However, I have some concerns about the antioxidants. Safety information is limited on these components. Adverse events in breastfed infants have been reported for some of these herbs, albeit in women who were consuming unusually large quantities of purified extracts. There is also a potential for interactions between these substances and any other medicines that you may be taking. It is very difficult to assess the risk to your baby beyond these vague statements.

A general principle that applies to both breastfeeding and IBS is that simpler is usually better. You might consider making your own veggie smoothies at home so that you can control exactly what goes into them.

Please call us at the InfantRisk Center if this has not completely answered your question.*(806)352-2519
