    Hi, thanks for your post.

There is no available literature on the use of elderberries in breastfeeding women. The safety studies in other populations often do not distinguish between using the berries and using other parts of the plant. The bark, roots, and leaves can have a significant amount of cyanide in them, but it seems to be generally accepted that the ripe berries do not have this problem. I am not sure we have enough information to comment on whether this is safe for you and your child. Use at your own risk.

Please call us at the InfantRisk Center if this has not completely answered your question.*(806)352-2519

    Elderberry Syrup

Is elderberry syrup safe to take while breastfeeding my 13 month old? I made it myself with organic elder berries from Mountain Rose Herb. If so, can you also advise on safe dosing.

    Thank you
