My littles are very good at bringing home daycare germs. My mother-in-law swears by echinacea, but is it safe for me to take while breastfeeding?

    sshat,

Echinacea is rated an L3-no data-probably compatible. "Thus far, little is known about the toxicity of this plant although its use has been widespread for many years. Apparently, purified Echinacea extract is relatively non-toxic even at high doses. No data are available on its transfer into human milk or its effect on lactation. It should not be used for more than 8 weeks." (Medications and Mothers' Milk database, Dr Thomas Hale PhD).
