  • Pituitary tumor and Domperidone

I have a patient that had a pituitary tumor when she was 16, and she is now 33 and has low milk supply while breastfeeding. When we tested her prolactin it is very low, but her doctor is advising against taking Domperidone. Do you know if there any research on the subject? Would elevating prolactin levels increase the chance of a pituitary tumor?

    Thank you!!!

    Milkalicious, thanks for posting,

In this case we would recommend mom following her endocrinologist advice, the package insert for the domperidone states to not use in patients who have a tumor of the pituitary gland called a prolactinoma, and since this mom has a history of a pituitary tumor it may be a problem. I hope this helps.
