  • Fenugreek and Generic Keppra

Just wondering if Fenugreek has any side effects for moms with Seizures taking Generic Keppra looking to increase milk supply??

    Dear Rudy,

Fenugreek has not been shown to increase prolactin or milk production in studies so Dr. Hale doesn't recommend it. There are many reasons for low milk production. Dr. Hale recommends to have a prolactin level drawn to rule out low prolactin as one of the causes of low milk supply. Prolactin levels should be drawn two to three hours after a pumping or breastfeeding session. If the level is low (generally less than 50 ng/ml), then use of medications that increase prolactin should be helpful. If the prolactin is normal, other causes such as poor latching, ineffective pumping or maternal disease processes etc. should be investigated. You should consult your local pharmacist about any drug to drug interactions between fenugreek and Keppra. Please call the InfantRisk Center at 806-352-2519 if you have further questions. We are open Monday through Friday, CDT.

    Sincerely,
