  • Domperidone for a mother of a CHD baby

    Hello,

My daughter was born with a congenital heart defect called truncus arteriosus. She had open heart surgery to repair her heart at 5 days old. She is currently in heart failure, due to moderate regurgitation from both her aortic and pulmonary valves. She is doing very well, but is on medications in order keep her heart functioning well.

My milk supply dropped when she was five weeks old, right after she was discharged from the hospital. I am unable to keep up with the amount of milk my child needs. I have been trying all of the known non-drug galactalogues, without any significant boost.

I know it is known for causing cardiac issues, so is it safe for me to take domperidone since trace amounts of the drug is found in the breast milk?

    BriannagRod,

I spoke with Dr Hale he advised domperidone probably not a good choice since your infant has cardiac issues.
